MILAN, Italy, December 10, 2009 – ShoreTel® (NASDAQ: SHOR), the leading provider of brilliantly simple IP phone systems with fully integrated Unified Communications (UC), today announced that the Italian Municipality of Solbiate has selected a ShoreTel UC system, together with system integrator Impianti, to transform communications at its headquarters.

The Municipality of Solbiate, located in the Province of Como, reviewed several competitor solutions before migrating its dated analogue phone system over to ShoreTel's IP-based UC solution. Local government organisations in Italy are required by law to make fiscally prudent technology investments and the Municipality of Solbiate also was looking for ways to streamline operational processes and increase employee productivity.

"We were in search of a solution that allows us to open our communication infrastructure to IP, and create a communication system that would be effective and easy-to-use for our employees without a complete overhaul on how they work day to day," explained Claudio Bergaminelli, budget councilor at the Municipality of Solbiate. "As a municipality, we have to follow the Italian Finance Act of 2008, which requires us to only choose the most cost-effective technology solutions. The proposal by ShoreTel and Impianti convinced us that the ShoreTel IP-based UC solution is easy to use and manage, delivers the cost savings we need and provides a wealth of useful features for our employees."

The municipality is currently using the ShoreTel UC system at City Hall, with plans to roll it out to other local offices as budget and time permit. Integration with Microsoft Outlook enables employees to manage all of their communications through their PCs, benefiting from productivity-enhancing features, such as voicemail messages as .wav files in their e-mail inboxes, and easy access to online directories.

"We're excited that the Municipality of Solbiate has chosen ShoreTel's brilliantly simple UC system to enhance communications and reduce costs," said Tom Perry, Director of Marketing EMEA for ShoreTel. "ShoreTel has a significant history of successes with public sector agencies in other countries and as a major public sector customer in Italy, we are confident that the Municipality of Solbiate will serve as a flagship for many more over the coming months."

"The ShoreTel UC solution is perfectly suited to the modern needs of government organisations, providing a reliable platform for growth and optimizing existing investments," said Simone Lo Russo, Director of Impianti Srl. "Increasingly, organizations like the Municipality of Solbiate, are turning to ShoreTel because of its cost savings, ease of use and reliability."

The ShoreTel UC system is based on a distributed architecture designed for performance, reliability and manageability, and includes ergonomically designed phones, state-of-the-art switches, and feature-rich software for enterprise-class functionality at a low total cost of ownership.
