ShoreTel Awarded "Easiest to Use IP-PBX, Large Systems" by Miercom and BCR

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 19, 2005 - ShoreTel, Inc., the innovation leader in enterprise IP telephony, announced today that its system has been recognized by Miercom and Business Communications Review (BCR) magazine as the easiest-to-use large system IP-PBX. Miercom's findings were the result of its sixth annual comparative review of 'high-end' IP-PBXs-defined as systems targeted at customers requiring more than 1,000 stations.

"Of all the high-end IP-PBXs we've tested, ShoreTel is ahead of the pack when it comes to ease of use, ease of management and ease of deployment," noted Edwin Mier, founder of Miercom, a network consultancy and product test center.

According to Mier, other distinguishing features of the ShoreTel package are the vendor's innovative IP phones and its integrated Call Manager application. The three models of ShorePhones have "one of the best-quality full-duplex speakerphones of the IP phones we have tested. A real competitive strength of ShoreTel is a rich CTI package. The Call Manager suite, which offers the softphone as an option, comes in various versions, and features an extremely easy-to-use interface for finding contacts, placing calls and scanning call logs."

Mier continued, "ShoreTel's ShoreWare Director provides the network manager's view of the ShoreTel system via a clean and efficient interface. Adding a new ShoreTel user, for example, is all done on a single screen, even for voice mail. It takes a half-dozen or more screens for the other vendors. ShoreTel's management is among the few that earned full credit for interface ease-of-use and navigability.

Mier agrees that ShoreTel's most impressive advanced features are embodied in desktop applications which tap the capabilities of the ShoreTel5 IP-telephony system. These include: the Operator Call Manager, a softphone with attendant-console capabilities, including real-time presence indication for hundreds of extensions; and drag-and-drop document sharing, which lets a user easily send any file to another user during a regular phone call, enabling them to look at the document in real time together in a web conference.
