SUNNYVALE, CA, August 28, 2000 - The Shoreline IP Voice Communications System - consisting of ShoreGear IP voice switches and ShoreWare software from Shoreline Communications - was awarded a perfect "A" score and "Best of Breed" designation by InternetWeek magazine. The award is a result of an in-depth review of IP-PBX products published in the August 21 issue of InternetWeek.

This unique review opportunity, in which Shoreline Communications emerged as the "sure winner", was extended to 12 vendors, including Cisco, Lucent, 3Com, Mitel, and Vertical Networks. Very few vendors had products that met the review criteria for IP voice communications. Cisco, Lucent, and Mitel did not provide any products.

Testing focused on five criteria: 1. basic PBX functionality; 2. VoIP functionality; 3. scalability/fault tolerance; 4. ease of administration; and 5. bang for the buck. Shoreline scored straight A's on each of these five criteria.

Product requirements from each vendor included a complete system for two offices connected through a T-1 line. Each office had a minimum of 20 desktop extensions and the ability to handle calls locally and over the T-1.

"The ShoreGear line of voice switches meets and exceeds the requirements for a reliable, functional IP-PBX system. Its exceptional call handling and VoIP call quality, as well as the distributed nature of the system earned it the title of Best of Breed," said InternetWeek. "The ShoreGear switches set the standard for how an IP-PBX should perform. Awesome call control, high scalability (up to 5,000 ports) and great unified messaging placed it in front of the other PBXs."

"Coming on the heels of receiving the Best of Show award at N+I 2000 in Las Vegas, this InternetWeek IP-PBX review again shows why Shoreline is setting the standard for enterprise-class IP voice communications," said John Fazio, president and CEO of Shoreline Communications. "As for those who decided not to submit their IP-PBX products for independent scrutiny from a respected publication; they can run but not hide. We will continue to set the standard for reliable, robust and scalable IP telephony."

The award-winning Shoreline IP Voice Communications System is based on the company's Distributed Internet Voice Architecture (DIVA) software - a standards-based architecture that leverages ShoreGear IP voice switches to distribute voice communications intelligence throughout the network. For enterprise customers, the result is a highly reliable solution that can be easily managed as a single, integrated system - even with users spread across dozens of remote locations.

In addition, the Shoreline's ShoreWare software provides unified messaging for all users through Microsoft Outlook, a rich set of integrated voice services, support for remote teleworkers and SOHO environments, cost savings through toll bypass (enabling voice to "ride free" across the IP network), and web-based management that provides a comprehensive view of the entire voice system and greatly simplifies normally complex configuration and administration tasks.
