Time To Embrace The Remote Workforce

Modern professionals are now working wherever they may be through the use of cloud and mobile devices. As such, they are beginning to require the ability to clock in from remote locations. Permitting this to occur is paying off for organizations, according to TMCnet contributor Maurice Nagle.

"As more companies embrace the freedom, productivity and efficiency that conference call services and technology in general provide we begin to see it reflect in job postings," Nagle wrote. "More and more it is seen that once the benefits are experienced enterprises are willing to hire remote workers."

But it is not possible to enable an effective remote office environment without unified communications. These types of systems not only have to be in place, but must be of enterprise caliber.

Providing Context To Conversations

Siloed communications are no longer acceptable in the workplace. Attempting to connect and collaborate over a number of machines and channels can be cumbersome and disorganized. Unified communications systems need to put the focus on the parties that are working together rather than on the platform that's been chosen.

"With multimodal endpoint devices, especially mobile smartphones and tablets, end users will be using all modes of communications to initiate and receive contacts with other people, as well as interact with automated business processes," wrote Unified Communications Strategies contributor Art Rosenberg. "However, all such contacts and interactions are related and should therefore be stored logically for easy retrieval and review contextually to any current interaction."

This is the future of enterprise communications. That being said, it's important to recognize that these advantages exist in the present. With 2015 just getting started, it will be important to use the new year as the time to get mobile UC systems into place that collect and utilize data. As more companies implement these tools and start to experience their benefits, those who have not risk falling further behind.

The Remote Workforce Is An Operational Advantage

There are some significant perks to working in the cloud - and not all of them pertain to the employees that opt to be remote. With fewer people in the physical office at one time, it is easier to keep costs down on things like utilities and amenities.

This is the kind of streamlining that can allow for companies to vastly improve their daily operations. In order to best modernize an enterprise, it is important to enable the remote workforce with unified communications.
