Small businesses should consider cloud-based UC solutions

In the past, small businesses have generally lacked the proper resources to compete with larger companies, and this discrepancy has been especially true regarding top-of-the-line phone systems. However, cloud computing has helped changed this imbalance by making unified communications more accessible to smaller organizations.

A recent Smallbiztechnology.com report highlighted the benefits of cloud-based unified communications for small businesses considering upgrading their business phone system.

"How would it feel if you had a business phone number with multiple extensions, a phone with a ton of cute buttons, and a mobility platform that lets you answer your office calls from your mobile phone, no matter where you are?" the news source asked. "Enter cloud-based unified communications, a fully-integrated phone service that operates on the Cloud, meant to serve business clients."

The Smallbiztechnology report said cloud-based unified communications enable companies to operate effectively even when employees are not at the office, helping workers save time in the process.

"Depending on the service you choose, you might also get a mobility option included, which will allow you to respond to your particular extension within any telecommunications device you have, such as a smartphone or softphone on a computer," the news provider explained. "There's no reason why you should settle for any less."

SMBs stepping up to the plate for UC solutions

Information technology nonprofit CompTIA recently conducted a survey of companies to gauge their feelings regarding unified communications. According to the study, 80 percent said they believe there is value in UC solutions. Many technologies are expected to impact UC's future, including cloud computing, social media and mobility.

CompTIA technology analysis director Seth Robinson added that organizations of all sizes know exactly what they want from their unified communications deployments: improved customer communication, reduced operating costs and more worker productivity.

With the emergence of cloud computing, social media and mobility technologies, the unified communications market is expected to become more accessible in the near future. According to a separate study conducted by Access Markets International Partners, small and medium-sized businesses in the United States are expected to increase their UC spending by an annual compound growth rate of 16 percent through 2015.

AMIP noted that many SMBs see value in unified communications options to support the proliferation of mobiles devices used among employees.
