ShoreTel Newsletter Covers WebRTC, 10 Home Office Essentials

The October ShoreTel Newsletter addresses two important tech trends – the emergence of the open, HTML5-based API, WebRTC, that enhances real-time communication, and the tools that are fostering the continued growth of telecommuting.

The article, “Will WebRTC Change the Game for Business Video Collaboration?” describes the promise of WebRTC for enhanced video and voice communications. WebRTC is currently supported by Mozilla, Google and Opera and is available in the “stable” versions of Chrome, Opera and Firefox for PC and Android.

SMBs would greatly benefit from WebRTC-enabled browsers to conduct business internally as well as with partners and customers, the article says. ShoreTel Communicator incorporates support for WebRTC to provide enhanced audio quality.

In “10 Home Office Essentials,” the newsletter says telecommuting has long been celebrated as a solution to work/life balance and less congested roads, and new tools are making working from a home a growing trend.

In addition to a comfortable desk and chair and favorite mobile devices, a telecommuter can access ShoreTel Communicator software that runs on a web browser, Windows, Mac OS, iPhones, BlackBerry and Nokia phones and offers same call management features workers use at the office. Also available is the ShoreTel Dock, which when combined with the ShoreTel Mobility Client, lets teleworkers extend their unified communications apps, including voice, location-aware presence and IM to their mobile devices.
