ShoreTel Customers Virtualize ShoreTel for Improved Performance

This week ShoreTel announced we extended virtualization support to ShoreTel Enterprise Contact Center. In addition we announced that more than 1,000 ShoreTel customers in 26 countries have virtualized ShoreTel.

We’ve heard for years that virtualizing provides benefits such as cost savings, easier administration and increased system availability but we asked some of our customers what benefits they’ve seen from virtualizing their ShoreTel.

Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, California chose ShoreTel because of the ease and simplicity of virtualizing ShoreTel. “From the start, one of our requirements for a PBX was that it could be virtualized. While other vendors supported it, the requirements were such that it was consuming an entire physical server host for the virtual operating system. The constraints simply weren’t feasible for the virtual environment. The benefit ShoreTel brought was the ability to completely virtualize the PBX management servers and not have to invest into server hardware initially or on a recurring basis when the maintenance schedule elapsed. This resulted in less hardware, less maintenance, and lower costs,” stated Corey Fling, director national services and telecom at Point Loma Nazarene University.

Now that Point Loma Nazarene University has virtualized their ShoreTel, the benefits have been outstanding. “By having a PBX that supports a virtualized environment and a standard Windows server installation, we were able to reduce the time that my team used to invest in managing the phone system. With our previous VoIP provider, we had physical hardware that needed to be replaced every 4-5 years and proprietary patches for Windows that needed to be validated each time new Windows patches came out. I didn’t want to have to make an investment into an additional part-time Systems Administrator simply to manage the Windows services for my VoIP environment,” explained Fling.

Another customer who recently virtualized ShoreTel is First Security Bank. Chartered in 1932, the bank has grown from a single entity located on the corner of Arch and Spring Streets, to 900 employees and 70 branch offices throughout the state, and over $3.6 billion in assets. By deploying ShoreTel into First Security Bank’s virtualized environment, the requirement for physical phone servers shrinks, as do the related power, cooling and space consumption costs. “Migrating to the virtual environment has provided us dynamic resource allocation to the ShoreWare Director. In addition we are using VMotion and HA, as well as SRM at our disaster recovery site,” explains Brody.
