ShoreTel 13.2 Released for General Availability

We are pleased to announce the General Availability of ShoreTel 13.2. The updated release enhances ShoreTel’s unified communication solution with expanded SoftPhone capabilities and support for Microsoft Windows 8.

Some users are indicating an intention to move away from deskphones, with 10 percent of ShoreTel customers noting that they plan to transition to softphones for the majority of their users within three years. Currently 10 percent of ShoreTel end-users use the SoftPhone at least once a week.

Macs also continue to surge in the enterprise with 21 percent of users now on Apple devices, and 50 percent of companies issuing Mac's to at least some of their employees. Additionally, softphone capability is the top requested feature among Mac users.

ShoreTel Communicator is a powerful unified communications (UC) application for users across an organization, whether an operator, a contact center agent, a knowledge worker or a road warrior. Available on multiple operating systems, ShoreTel Communicator makes it easy for people to communicate however they choose: by video, voice (wired or wireless), instant messaging (IM), and more.

ShoreTel 13.2 includes the following:

  • New voice media engine for Communicator for Windows’ SoftPhone.
    Incorporates the best-in-class audio media engine into its desktop clients, using technology supported by the WebRTC open source project to provide enhanced audio quality for users.New audio media packages voice components into optimized frameworks for smoother integration and better performance, especially in terms of resilience to handle the delay, jitter and packet loss presented by IP networks.
  • New softphone feature in Communicator for Mac.
    Softphone on the Mac contains an equivalent feature set as Communicator for Windows including a keypad for DTMF entries and support for multiple codecs including the wideband audio codec G.722.
  • Windows 8 support.
    ShoreTel 13.2 now supports the Windows 8 platform, including both Windows 8 Pro and Enterprise, as well as Internet Explorer 10.
