San Francisco SPCA and Their ShoreTel Unified Communications System

When was the last time you went to a black-tie event where gourmet passed appetizers included “treats” and entertainment included “dancing with your dog”? For several ShoreTel employees (and their furry companions), that was last night at the 15th Annual San Francisco SPCA Bark & Whine Ball.

A ShoreTel customer since 2009, the San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is a community-supported organization dedicated to saving, protecting and caring for cats and dogs to improve the quality of life for animals and their companions. Effective communications is the lifeblood of this nonprofit, which relies exclusively on donations to provide its many services.

All proceeds from the yearly Bark and Whine Ball benefit the Cinderella Fund, which is used to provide urgent medical care and treatment to shelter residents – often delineating the difference between neglect and nurturing, hurting and health, loneliness and a loving home. Prior to the ShoreTel UC system implementation, SPCA IT manager Joe Boothby discovered the organization was losing more than 38 percent of calls. This was a great cause for concern – as missed communication could negatively impact a potential adoptive family’s experience or lead to a critical medical emergency.

Today, with more than 200 phones spanning three sites, the SF SPCA’s ShoreTel system is saving the non-profit approximately $100,000 per year in IT costs, their annual adoption event is more efficient and less expensive, and improved customer service helps increase the number of donations – giving humans a reason to celebrate at the Ball and their doggie dates additional incentive to wag their tails.
