New survey says mobile devices fueling UC budgets
CIO reported that its parent company, IDG Enterprise, recently conducted a survey of more than 1,100 IT leaders and found that the proliferation of mobile devices is driving their unified communications spending.
The study said that 67 percent of respondents are integrating their UC technologies, which include such options as video conferencing, social software, IP telephony and email, to support mobile devices like tablets and smartphones, CIO reported.
The IDG Enterprise study also found that 61 percent of participants cited employee productivity as their top reason for investing in UC, while 42 percent cited worker flexibility.
Other industry research has shown that more companies are warming to UC deployments. IT nonprofit CompTIA recently released the results of its Second Annual Unified Communications Market Trends report and found that 80 percent of organizations believe UC can benefit their overall operations.
"Organizations have a clear vision of what they expect to gain from unified communications - greater employee productivity, reduced costs and a means to improve customer engagement," CompTIA technology analysis director Seth Robinson explained.
