Massive Milestone for ShoreTel Asia

Wednesday night, October 30, represented a massive milestone for ShoreTel in Asia, with our company winning a Rising Star award in the 2013 NetworkWorld Asia Readers’ Choice Product Excellence Awards.

The awards were presented in a gala ceremony in Singapore, and it was great that ShoreTel had a good representation at the event with Bruce Downing, our managing director for Asia and South Africa, and Singapore country manager Sean Foo celebrating our achievement with me on the night. (That's me with Sean, on the right.)

The event kicked off with a networking reception, which gave us a great chance to catch up with colleagues and peers from service providers, systems integrators and other IT vendors. Overall, the event was attended by around 150 people, so there was a great atmosphere and sense of anticipation in the room.

Once the formal award proceedings began our award came up during the first round of presentations – with ShoreTel winning the Rising Star award in the Communication and Collaboration category! Here's Bruce accepting the award...

The Rising Star category is dedicated especially to new players that have demonstrated excellent capabilities to innovate unique solutions for businesses in today’s fast-paced IT marketplace. We won the award after NetworkWorld Asia’s readers – who include CIOs, technology directors, IT project heads, network managers and data centre managers – voted ShoreTel as the newcomer with the most potential to make a major impact with customers, given our communication and collaboration solutions.

The night also gave us the opportunity to spend time with other IT companies. At our table, we had representatives from Rackspace, Tableau, Compuware and Ruckus Wireless. We were able to chat to Ruckus about the recent wireless deployment they completed for our Singapore office, and we also discussed ShoreTel Mobility, a solution Ruckus is very interested in utilizing.

However, the highlight of the night was winning the Rising Star award. As I said, it is a real milestone for ShoreTel in the region. We only established our Asian operations a little over three and half years ago, and we have invested heavily in the region over the past 12 months. We have now expanded our presence in Singapore, Philippines and Malaysia, with rapid expansion across the region. During that time, we have focused on our core partners to ensure that we provide training and support to build up their level of competence and capability across the ShoreTel solution set, and reinforced our distribution channels by migrating to a two-tier distribution model.

What’s great is to see all this hard work and investment paying off with another award for the trophy cabinet! In fact, Bruce and I both bought ourselves dinner suits during the week, with the expectation of more awards ceremonies to attend over the next 12 months.

Finally, a special thank you to NetworkWorld Asia for running the awards – now in their eighth year – and for putting on such a great event on Wednesday night.  While the formal proceedings ended at about 11:00pm, we continued the celebration at the Fern & Kiwi at Clarke Quay (well worth a visit if you are in town) to make it a truly memorable night!

And, by sheer coincidence, I commemorated the event with my first-ever tweet: https://twitter.com/BJ_Swanson/status/395504003544399872. An auspicious start to my tweeting career, but also the first of what I hope will be many more NetworkWorld Asia awards in the years ahead.
