How does innovation occur? How does a company know where to look for staffers that are capable of going above and beyond? According to Fidelity Labs vice president Hadley Stern, innovation "doesn't just happen." Workers within any business need to be supported in ways that will foster creative approaches to long-standing practices. This is especially true when it comes to technology. InformationWeek contributor Anant Gupta believes that the rapid evolution of tech "has dramatically changed the way we work and the skills we need." He cites a recent McKinsey report that dictates the biggest changes are yet to come and the tides will continue to change for years to come.

Frequently, these developments pertain to enterprise communications. Telecom has undergone a significant evolution within the last couple of years. In part, this is the result of the consumerization of IT. More people are using advanced communications assets and techniques to meet their personal goals, and they want to feel enabled in the same ways when they come to work. There is a significant emphasis being placed on mobility and being able to work remotely via they cloud, and it is in the best interest of businesses to act on these changing requirements or risk losing some of their best people.

This requires effort and planning from the higher-ups and key decision-makers. One of the biggest things to consider is the current state of legacy systems. Some networks can be easily adapted for use in the cloud. But many other organizations are struggling along on obsolete hardware. If this is the case, it would be wise not to invest in another on-site installation but rather seek out hosted VoIP services that can be leveraged from beyond the physical office.

Landline networks have served the business world well in the time they've been around. But in many cases, continuing to use them is counterproductive. Much of the increasing popularity surrounding mobile and cloud VoIP comes from the changing way that people view their professional careers. Especially among millennials, there is a greater need for a balance between work and home life - something that cloud-based assets are incredibly good at facilitating. People want to work from home not because they're lazy, but they feel more comfortable there. Being able to throw on a pair of favorite jeans and not have to worry about commuting can be a big morale booster, and improved attitudes often lead to stronger output. Many professionals are more productive when they have a little more autonomy over their schedules, and companies are recognizing this more every day.

 

The Importance Of Being 'Cloud First'


It has gotten to the point where the cloud is no longer a disruptive technology. When it first appeared on the enterprise landscape, some feared it while others embraced it unquestioningly. As the cloud hype has started to settle, more organizations are realizing that they need to be "cloud first" in their thinking. But doing this may be easier said than done. For all it has provided companies with, the cloud is still met with a great deal of resistance from some who are still unsure of what it even is.

 

 

It will be important to walk non-believers through the transition process in order to put their fears to bed. It will be important to accomplish this in order to begin implementing new cloud functionality where there once was none - especially in regard to new mobile VoIP assets.
