Southern California versus Northern California. Los Angeles Dodgers versus San Francisco Giants. The rivalries go way back. But one thing these two winning baseball clubs agree on is the power of ShoreTel to manage their communications needs. This week ShoreTel hosted a media appreciation night at AT&T Park, to coincide with the Giants playing the Dodgers. The Dodgers are ShoreTel’s latest sports customer (check out the full story on that here.)

We had many press and industry analysts in attendance, a handful of key ShoreTel executives, Bill Schlough, CIO of the Giants, and two guests from the Dodgers IT team – Ralph Esquibel, vice president of information technology, and Debra Jorgensen, technology infrastructure manager. The event was a chance to demonstrate the brilliant simplicity of ShoreTel at work in the ballpark, which included a tour of the @Cafe, the park’s social media hub, and the equipment room. It was amazing to see a small rack of ShoreTel equipment that powers over 800 phones, in one corner of a huge room of wires and machines. Among a list of benefits, Bill explained how the Giants save more than $400,000 a year over their previous telecom provider.

Back in the suite, Ralph detailed how the Dodgers rely on ShoreTel to streamline communications for 750 staff and their fans, with Mobility a big part of the solution. He mentioned the ease of administration makes life so much easier for their small IT staff, while generating huge cost savings. Everyone enjoyed a great game (the Giants won this time), hot dogs and peanuts, and a surprise visit by the Giants World Series Championship trophies!
