M5 Networks’ Outsourced VoIP Tailor-Made for Fashion Industry

New York –
M5 Networks, one of the country’s leading outsourced IP phone system providers, and Octopus Networking, the market and technology leader in providing on-demand business services to the fashion industry, jointly announced today two successful hosted VoIP phone system deployments for fashion industry clients with Derek Lam, an up-and-coming fashion designer located in Manhattan with over 100 retail locations worldwide and Yohji Yamamoto (Y’s America). The addition of Derek Lam marks M5 Networks’ twentieth client in the fashion industry, showcasing how M5’s voice services continues to drive business value across industries.

In the midst of rapid growth, both Derek Lam and Y’s America tapped into M5’s voice service to address the typical phone system problems associated with expansion. In addition, improved communications with features such as Direct Inward Dialing (DID) and voicemail transfer provided a value-add benefit to help the companies communicate more efficiently.

Derek Lam decided to look for a replacement to their phone system when it moved to a bigger office space. With multiple locations and international communications needs, Derek Lam turned to M5 due to experiencing numerous problems with their previous phone system. With M5’s advanced voice services, Derek Lam can easily add new lines and clients can easily access employees. In addition, M5’s flexibility and speed is imperative to Derek Lam, which adds up to four new phone lines each month due to the company’s rapid growth.

“Our company constantly faces tight deadlines and relies heavily on phone communication,” says Derek Lam CEO Jan Schlottmann. “M5 provided simple training for employees and ensured that our transition was as smooth as possible.”

Y’s America approached Octopus Networking when it was preparing to remodel its store and consolidate three separate administrative offices into a single corporate headquarters. M5 Networks was able to seamlessly merge Y’s America’s disparate locations into one cohesive headquarters by maintaining all of the original phone numbers.

Derek Lam and Y’s America are constantly adding new showrooms, and M5’s solution helps them avoid the complications typically accompanying location moves with phone systems, such as high costs and slow up-time. Ben Irvine of Octopus Networking explains: “Phone system vendors often have horrible customer support and limited flexibility. M5 provides enterprise strength voice services that drive real business value to small to mid-sized businesses”.

M5 and Octopus also helped Derek Lam and Y’s America build a new network from the ground up using Cisco POE (Power Over Ethernet) switches, which reduced the cabling to half that of a typical installation, creating a sleek look to fit the companies’ image. The modern look of Cisco phones holds significance in an industry where aesthetics are paramount.

“We are seeing a trend in solutions for specific industries, such as fashion,” notes M5 CEO Dan Hoffman. “M5 takes a strategic approach on how businesses use voice applications within their organizations.”

About Y’s America

Yohji Yamamoto is an internationally renowned fashion designer. He expresses his philosophy and avant-garde spirit in his clothing, frequently creating designs far removed from current trends. He makes a line characterized by oversized silhouettes; it typically features drapes (loose gathers and tatters) in glossy textures that naturally change with the figure's contours and movement. Often, a single color (particularly black) and a single shade are used. One could say that Yohji Yamamoto tries to express himself through his clothing; customers who sympathize with those thoughts and spirit are charmed and become ardent fans.
