Integrating Microsoft UC products with an IP telephony system requires several protocols and multiple layers of integration. ShoreTel addresses this multithreaded requirement by leveraging its distributed architecture, exposing new industry standard interfaces and continuously improving existing APIs.

As a result, ShoreTel delivers multiple integration solutions:

Desktop client with Office Communicator

Integrate Microsoft LCS and OCS using CSTA and the ShoreWare CSTA Server to enable Microsoft Office Communicator to control the ShoreTel desktop phone, and to receive telephony presence information from the ShoreTel system.

Solution Requirements

  • ShoreTel 7.5 or higher
  • ShoreWare CSTA Server
  • Either:
    • Live Communication Server 2005
    • Office Communication Server 2007
  • One Microsoft LCS or OCS basic client license per user for Microsoft Office Communicator
  • One "ShoreWare CSTA – Microsoft RCC" client license per enabled user

Instant messaging (IM) and IM presence with ShoreWare Call Manager

Use the SIP for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) protocol, to enable LCS or OCS to deliver IM functionality via the ShoreWare® Professional Call Manager interface. This integration allows Professional Call Manager and Microsoft Office Communicator to exchange IM and IM presence seamlessly.

Unified Messaging with Microsoft Exchange 2007

Leverage SIP to integrate the unified messaging logical server available in Exchange 2007, and deliver voice and inbound fax messaging capabilities to the ShoreTel user.

Softphone with Microsoft Office Communicator

Take advantage of SIP to establish a voice tie between the ShoreTel system and Microsoft OCS, allowing Softphone voice calls between the two entities.
