Flynn Canada

Flynn Canada is Canada’s industry leader in roofing services, and provides the complete spectrum of building envelope construction materials and services, as well as contracting services for the institutional, commercial, and industrial construction market. Based in Mississauga, Ontario, Flynn Canada has grown into the leading building envelope trade contractor with more than 3,000 employees nationwide, in 16 offices across five time zones.

“Mobile employees carry their offices with them when they travel. They can easily assign their extensions to any ShoreTel handset in any branch office. It's completely transparent to callers, and extremely efficient.”
- Rod Ali, IT Manager, Flynn Canada.

The patchwork of PBX systems across Flynn Canada’s offices failed to integrate communications and increasingly demanded ongoing support. For Flynn’s IT group, maintaining each of these systems was costly and inefficient. Adding extensions and voicemail boxes was a time-consuming headache. With the phone system in Toronto, its largest office, nearing capacity, it was time to look at the whole phone picture. ShoreTel reseller IT Weapons demonstrated the system, and then arranged a visit to an existing ShoreTel customer, so the IT team at Flynn Canada could see it in action.

“My first project was to implement the ShoreTel system with little system management training. Although I was unfamiliar with ShoreTel, it was very easy to learn and the project went very smoothly.”
- Lee Wong, IT Operations Manager, Flynn Canada.

Beyond its ease of use and scalability, ShoreTel’s rich feature set made all the difference to the IT team. Flynn Canada replaced all of its standalone PBX systems with a single, centrally managed ShoreTel UC system. ShoreTel’s open architecture allows it to integrate with existing equipment, so the company was able to schedule new deployments according to time and budget considerations. Installation of more than 140 users at the Toronto office was conducted over one weekend. The new ShoreTel system enabled users to keep their existing extensions, with the addition of a single digit. With everyone on the same directory, interoffice communications are much simpler. Other benefits include:

  • A single, unified ShoreTel UC system across the organization provides centralized management, eases IT workload, and frees resources to focus on core business.
  • With unified messaging, one-call connections, and sophisticated call routing, ShoreTel enables Flynn Canada to present a professional and uniform image and ensure prompt responses to customer needs.
  • The system, which looks and behaves like a single, unified platform, scales with plug-and-play simplicity. Flexible and scalable configuration supports business growth and a mobile workforce without disruptions.
  • With its distributed software architecture, IT staff can easily support the ShoreTel system, reducing problem resolution from weeks to days, and eliminating expensive vendor service calls

“Compared to the competition, ShoreTel offered a better price for features we wanted, with a cost advantage of about 10 percent.”

- Lee Wong, IT Operations Manager, Flynn Canada.
